Two flights bound for Rome diverted after bomb threats

Two aircraft heading to Rome, Italy, received warnings that they could be carrying explosives, forcing one to divert to France while the other was escorted by fighter jets until it reached its destination.

The incidents occurred on Thursday, November 5, 2026, just two days after several other flights across Europe received similar warnings.

According to the BBC, an Aer Lingus Airbus A320 flying from Dublin, Ireland, to Rome issued an emergency alert after a bomb threat was reported on board.

The aircraft was subsequently diverted and landed at Évreux military airbase in northern France.

Aer Lingus confirmed that flight EI402 landed safely and said it was making arrangements to help passengers continue their journeys.

Another flight bound for Rome, operated by Finland’s Finnair, had departed from Helsinki. It also received a bomb threat and was escorted by fighter jets until it reached its destination.

On the same day, a Wizz Air flight travelling from Milan to Warsaw, Poland, was diverted to Vienna, Austria. However, the reason for the diversion remains unclear.

On November 3, seven other European flights were subjected to security checks after bomb threats were reported, but no explosives were found.

The British government said the threats were intended to cause fear and disrupt air travel.
