David Adam Todd is a 44-year-old ship repair worker at the US naval base at Yokosuka in Kanagawa Prefecture, south of Tokyo. The suspect allegedly smuggled the items from the United States in violation of Japan’s narcotics control law.
Police say customs officials discovered a suspicious package addressed to the suspect in the mail used by US military-related personnel for private correspondence. An analysis detected narcotic ingredients.
They say the Kanagawa resident is suspected of smuggling about 280 grams of gummies, capsules, and other items containing narcotic ingredients in July last year.
As police and customs officials continue their investigation the suspect is reportedly remaining silent.
