It will be the second meeting between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump in 2026. Although the meeting had been anticipated for several weeks and was widely expected to take place, China had not officially confirmed it until Monday, September 21.
The visit comes as China and the United States continue to play major roles in the global economy and international relations, making engagements between their leaders a subject of close international attention.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the visit as significant for bilateral relations, following various rounds of talks between officials from Beijing and Washington.
Xi Jinping and Trump last met for discussions between heads of state, and the upcoming meeting will be their second encounter this year.
President Donald Trump paid a working visit to Beijing, China, in May 2026, where he was hosted by President Xi Jinping.
It was Trump’s first visit to China during his second term in office and focused on issues including trade, security and relations between the two countries.
