The explosion occurred on the night of August 1 when a woman attempted to enter the Balzi Rossi restaurant, where a private event was taking place. After being denied entry, she allegedly detonated an explosive device, according to Russia’s National Anti-Terrorist Committee.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, some Moscow residents told the BBC they suspect Ukraine may have been involved. Russian authorities have not confirmed whether Ukraine or any other militant group was responsible.
In recent years, several senior Russian military officials have been assassinated in Moscow and surrounding areas. Russia has repeatedly accused Ukraine of orchestrating those attacks, although Kyiv has consistently refrained from acknowledging any involvement.
Russia and Ukraine have now been at war for more than four years. The conflict has claimed thousands of lives, devastated numerous cities, and forced millions of people to flee their homes.
Russia continues to control parts of eastern and southern Ukraine, including the Crimean Peninsula. Although many Western countries, including the United States and NATO allies, have provided Ukraine with military, financial, and humanitarian support to sustain its defense, the conflict continues with no clear resolution.
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing peace, negotiations have repeatedly stalled, and the war remains unresolved.
