A group of former senior Israeli security officials has called on US President Donald Trump to raise concerns over increasing settler violence in the occupied West Bank during his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The appeal was made by nearly 600 retired officials from Israel’s military, intelligence, police, and diplomatic sectors, who warned that continued unrest could create serious challenges for Israel’s future security and regional stability, according to Al Jazeera.
The group, Commanders for Israel’s Security (CIS), said Washington has significant influence and urged Trump to use his position to encourage stronger measures to prevent further escalation.
The former officials argued that violence in the West Bank has reached a level that requires immediate attention, warning that failure to respond could deepen tensions and affect both Israeli and US interests in the region.
They also expressed concern that some political figures have contributed to the situation by failing to hold violent actors accountable, saying that weakened law enforcement could further increase instability.
The statement comes after a recent wave of clashes and attacks involving Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, raising concerns among security figures about the possible consequences of continued violence.
The officials made their appeal as Netanyahu travelled to Washington for talks with Trump, with discussions expected to focus on regional security, Iran, and broader Middle East issues.
They urged the two leaders to consider the impact of West Bank instability on future peace efforts and regional security.
