Trump made the remarks on Thursday, November 5, 2026, while speaking to journalists in the Oval Office at the White House.
“Our elections are so fraudulent that you can’t even imagine,” he said.
His comments came after the Democratic Party secured majorities in both chambers of the US Congress.
Democrats had secured at least 54 seats in the Senate, compared with 44 held by Republicans. In the House of Representatives, Democrats had won more than 250 seats.
Trump also criticised the victory of a Democratic candidate in the Los Angeles mayoral race, describing it as disgraceful.
He further expressed dissatisfaction with the vote-counting process in Alaska, where Democrat Mary Peltola was leading with 48.2% of the vote, followed by Republican Dan Sullivan with 47.9%.
Trump called for votes cast for two other candidates, including one named Dan Sullivan, whose name is similar to that of the Republican senator, and Gerald Heikes, to be added to the senator’s tally.
He described this as the only fair way to resolve the issue but provided no evidence to support his allegations of electoral fraud.
Meanwhile, Democrats continued to perform strongly in states traditionally supportive of Republicans, including Texas and Kansas.
In Mississippi, Democratic candidate Scott Colom was narrowly leading Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith.
Some Republican leaders have also begun identifying factors behind their party’s defeat.
Republican Congressman Warren Davidson said Trump’s war against Iran and trade disputes with various countries had contributed to the losses.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, meanwhile, warned Trump that using his presidential powers to block legislation introduced by Democrats could create further problems for Republicans ahead of the 2028 elections.
