The attack took place on Sunday, September 13, 2026, near the Yahodyn railway station. According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the train carrying Johnson, security advisers and other passengers had travelled from Kyiv toward Warsaw and had stopped at the station shortly before a drone struck a stationary train.
A security worker monitoring the area spotted the drone, prompting authorities to order passengers to evacuate. The warning came about 15 minutes before the attack.
The train carrying Johnson also left the station earlier than scheduled as a precautionary measure. Another train at the station was carrying David Petraeus, the former director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.
Johnson said he could not understand why Russia would target a stationary train near the border. He described the incident as an example of what Ukrainians face on a daily basis amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
He also called on countries supporting Ukraine to strengthen its air-defense capabilities so that it can better protect its people and critical infrastructure from Russian attacks.
Ukrainian and Polish officials also reported that another passenger train carrying 206 people from Kyiv to Warsaw came under attack near the border.
No casualties were reported in the incident, according to the officials.
